Traditional Portrait Collage

This is Alexis Ayala. Throughout my photography site you can find him in my photos and in my processes because he is someone that helps and supports me in everything I do. So, for my traditional portrait collage I decided he was the best subject to dedicate this project to. In the image above, you can see Alexis's smiling profile staggered and stacked with mounting board. The photo itself, was a film image that I developed and enlarged. Later, after pondering how to tackle this assignment, I color toned it blue and cut three of the developed photos into various parts. One of the developed photos was originally exposed, and thus darker, than the other images during the enlargement process. With this photo I cut his profile with organic lines and used it as the back piece to keep the image together. With the other two photos I rebuilt Alexis's face over the base photo. After I had an idea of how he would look, I glued the photos to the mounting board and cut it with an x-acto knife. I then rebuilt and glued the collage together. Finally I went over a few select parts with oil colorants. The reflection in his eyes was given a hint of green and the base photo with the organic lines received a brighter blue to give it a small pop for the back ground. I also applied a bit to one of the background pieces at the top right only because I found it fitting.
