The Art of Composition

Directional Lines
On this expedition Alexis and I were headed up to my aunt's hotel room after a long day on Shelter islands little beach. We had built sandcastles, napped, dug in the sand, played catch, and essentially just hung out with family. In this photo I like how the molding and hand rails seem to lead to Alexis from all angles. This image was a bit difficult to catch because the hotel lighting was really bad so, I had to raise the ISO higher than I liked and open the aperture a bit. I also brightened and de-yellowfied the image a bit on Photoshop.

Framed Flowers
While walking from the school to Alexis's home we always pass a home that has variations of this bush. Some have pink versions of this flower while others are unpopulated by anything but the leaves this flower has. The home is surrounded by other greens and full trees that give it a nice appeal. In the image here we see other greenery, like a tree and the flower's lower leaves, frame the flower bundle

Nacara with Rule of Thirds
This vibrant pink face you see here is of an old friend of mine, Nikki. I love her and her colored hair which she tends to rotate in every shade of the rainbow. Nikki also has a very distinctive nose and mouth which makes her easy to identify. I took this image during one of the passing periods at El Cajon Valley HS when the lighting was good and my aperture was very wide. I did alter the image to create a more pink glow on her face because her hair had only slightly illuminated it when I had captured it.

Simplicity
Simplicity is probably one of the more difficult things I struggle with in photography probably because I have difficulty identifying it. I know it should have one main focus with little to no interference of the background and mergers, but I still find it difficult to compose on my own. This is one of my old photos front he beginning of the year when I would shoot anything that caught my eye. I really like this image because the clouds have a lot of contrast and the sky has a slight gradient.
