Digital Hand Coloring

This set of stairs is a piece that I have previously worked on. I particularly liked this image because the angle of the shot captures the full length of the stairs, but it still looks almost infinite. Originally the photo was black and white film that I developed in the back room and scanned. I chose a rainbow affect for it because the image initially gave of a dreary look so, I was hoping to lighten it up with a glimpse of a rainbow. I feel like adding the color to only the stairs shown below the railing give the picture more depth, as if we were looking at something with a lens while the rest of the world is still he same. Each step is an opaque dark color at about 15-17%. The colors themselves are the dark options of the normal rainbow colors provided on Photoshop CS6. It was hard to get the layers of the colors even because if they overlapped a bit, then the colors appeared much more pronounced. To fixed this I used a low opacity around 8% and went over the bolder spots that needed correction. This was a fairly easy process and a lot of fun.
